Hello, I am Justus Meyer zu Bexten. Since my last introduction looked more like a corporate CV, here is a more compact non-exhaustive insight.
My Career
After military service in Mittenwald and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in Jena, I moved to Leipzig for a Master’s in Data Science (interrupted by a semester abroad in Crete). Parallel to this, I was working continuously: As a software developer at Salesforce and in research at the Jena Computer Vision Group as well as the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences. Now, I am working on my own scientific endeavours through my PhD at ScaDS.AI, in continued collaboration with the MPI-CBS.
My focus lies in Deep Learning, particularly on Transformers for time series, language, and neuroscience. I describe myself as an optimistic skeptic: while I am often exhausted by current promises, I firmly believe in the potential of the method for data that eludes classical modeling – such as in medicine.
My Interests
I firmly believe in a life outside of work. You can find me weekly on a run to Lake Cospuden, climbing, or swimming. Furthermore, the international community is close to my heart: cultural encounters provide a benchmark for one’s own world and make hostility more difficult. While I now tend to stay in the background of international student associations like WILMA e.V. or ESN Jena, I am keeping my eyes open for new ways of engagement.
Blog and Contact
This blog is partly a placeholder for my domains, and partly a place to share announcements, provide frequently requested information and tools, or occasionally share a funny anecdote. If you want to get in touch, see the main page for contact information.
